Daily Schedule

Little Green Heron Dayschool

7:30 – 8:45 am – Arrival Time

Ø  When children arrive they will have their own table to sign in like their parents.

Ø  Small organic breakfast will be provided for children between the hour (7:30 – 8:30 am)

There will be quiet manipulative on the circle rug, work stations (ex.  Art materials, science activities, puzzles, sensory table, beading, etc.), and a table with cooking preparation on days we are creating snack with the class. (We will be inside or outside according to weather)

9:00 – 9:05am – Transition to Morning Meeting ( Bathroom Break if needed)

This is a time where the teacher can ring a bell (use music to have them feel safe and secure in their morning routine) to clean up to a beat or sing a slow song to have children gather at the circle rug.

9:05 am – 9:30 – Morning Meeting ( could be done in the shade out and about)

Ø  “Golden Moment” – Singing bowl rings three times while children are sitting like a pretzel to settle their bodies for 15 – 30 seconds.

Ø  Good Morning  Action Songs - Job Chart, Pebble Calendar, Kindness Pledge, Baking Picture (Wednesdays only)

Ø  Introduction to the day - What we are doing - continuing the exploration that may have already started.

9:30 – 9:35 – Bathroom Time and Shoes

9:35 – 10:30 – The Outdoor Classroom

Children can always play inside but when playing out in the natural world a child can invent, explore, and try new things. An outdoor environment that stimulates the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual learning for the young child helps with healthy development.  Also children will act more responsibly towards the earth and become better informed environmentally friendly adults.

Creating a drama for the outdoors bringing magic and puppetry outside

10:30 – 10:35 – Transition indoors

10:20 – 11:20 – Art and Exploration Time within the Inside Classroom

Art: The children work on individual and group projects, based on their interests, their observations, and specific social and cognitive concepts.

Examples of Exploration Centers

Ø  Book Corner and Writing Area – Understanding narrative, printed words have meaning, enjoying other worlds, using my eyes and ears – Strengthening small muscles using a variety of materials to communicate thought

Ø  The Dramatic Play Area (which will be changed frequently according to our studies)

Ø  Construction Area with Graphing paper and measuring materials

Ø  Science/Nature  ( example:  a place where children can place their nature collections)

Ø  Beautiful Stuff ( Art Area) – Being creative using my imagination, experimenting with beautiful colors, expressing my feelings and moods, developing eye hand coordination

Ø  And more !

11:20 – 11:30 - Cleaning up and Washing Hands

11:30 – 12: 15 - Lunch

12:15 – 12: 45 – Reading Time / Story time

12:45 – 1:30 – Outdoor Exploration and Favorite part about Your Morning

( Pick up for Half Day children)

1:30 – 1:40 – Bathroom

1:45 – 1:50 – Slow Yoga and Short Story

1:50 – 2:10 – Classical Music and Comforting

2:10 – 3:15 – Quiet Time

3:15 – 3:30 – Waking Up, Potting, and Washing Hands

3:30 – 4:00 – Snack Time – (Cooking will be twice a week in the mornings for snack time (gluten/dairy free options) – also we will be eating outside most days

We offer organic healthy snacks; most will use vegetables, fruits, and whole grains

4 – Shoes for Outside Exploration

4:00 – 4:30 – Inside /Outside Exploration  - (please look above for explanation)

4:30 – 4:40 – Clean Up and Transition to Closing Circle

4:40 – 5 – Closing Circle / Pick Up

There will be different days of the week when “Special Guests” will be teaching the students at Little Green Heron Day School.  On these days the schedule will be changed according to the times allotted for each teacher. Please look over the board where you sign in to be informed of the day’s activities.
